So you want to be a rap god? You've been practicing and practicing but are just not getting the lyrics you want. Me personally I've been in the same spot you were in and I understand. So I decided to help you out and give you 3 secret exercises to becoming a Rap God.

A verse a day keeps the crap lyrics away

Here is by far the most easiest but somewhat tedious way to up your lyrical skills. Make a goal to write a verse everyday for a few weeks. The hardest part of this exercise is finding things to talk about in the verse. Now if your lacking in rhymes forget the topic and just write a rhyme heavy verse. If your lacking in flow put the verse to a beat. If your lacking in song writing plan out the topic and put a hook on it. There's so many variations to this exercise, find what works for you.

Write rhymes so they show up everywhere in your line

If you want to extend your rhyme vocabulary here's one exercise that helped me. Get your notebook or pad and make some rhyme columns. I did this when I first started rapping. You write down one word on the paper and write as many rhyme words as you can under that word. My favorite thing to do is go back through my old notebooks and look through the rhyme columns and refresh my rhyme vocab.

Got bars but flows off track, do this so you don't sound wack

I had the hardest problem with flow. So for this one I'm going to give you TWO exercises to help you out.

The first exercise is to memorize a verse of your favorite song, then rap it over different instrumentals. If you can't find a verse you like, I memorized the first verse of The Notorious B.I.G's "Who Shot Ya". It's fairly smooth and very easy to memorize.

The second exercise is to freestyle over different instrumentals. If you can't freestyle just talk over the instrumentals and try your best to flow to the beat. This not only will help you freestyle but will also help you with written verses.

Well there you have it, 3 exercises to help you become a Rap God. If you have any questions or suggestions on what I should write about next or what I can work on leave them down below. I hope these exercises help you with your music.

Until next time,

~KDog
